Welcome to our Third Sector work.
Our Programme Specialist in this area is Paul Dodd.
Third, or Voluntary and Community Sector describes the range of organisations which occupy the space between the state and the private sector; these include small local community and voluntary groups, registered charities, both large and small, foundations, trusts, social enterprises and cooperatives.*
The purpose of the West Midlands Regional Development Centre Third Sector workstream is to support the development of the third sector to become organised and fit for purpose as we enter a period where health and social care is undergoing a major realignment in terms of regulation and commissioning. We aim to ensure that service improvement is inclusive of all stakeholders and partners – including the smaller community sector that has an untapped potential to contribute to the generic wellbeing of communities, and also offer an alternative choice and plurality of provision.
The innovative, flexible person centred approach often employed in the Third sector has been recognised as a way forward for service provision, as government plans to put people at the centre of their own care.
