Learning Outcomes

Participants understand:

  • What mental health promotion is
  • Determinants of mental health in later life and what needs to be done in practice to address these
  • The mental and physical health needs of older people and the links between the two
  • What works to promote the mental health of older people
  • Mental health problems and issues facing older people

Participants know:

  • What is recommended to promote the mental health of older people and to improve support and services for older people experiencing mental health problems

Participants have applied their learning to their own work and planned:

  • How they can implement the relevant recommendations
  • How they can develop their mental health promotion activity in line with the evidence base
Audience(s) the session is suitable for Anyone working with older people
Duration 3 hours approx
To facilitate the session you will need
  • A good knowledge of learning outcomes above and of generic mental health promotion theory and practice
  • To have read the UK Inquiry into Mental Health and Wellbeing in Later Life first and second reports (see references below)
  • Sound presentation and facilitation skills
