Acute Inpatient Audit

As a part of the acute Development Programme we have written a database that analyses each Trusts audit data against the original Healthcare Commission criteria, that are now embodied in the operational standards, comparing  findings with "absolute" thresholds and a "West Midlands average" - (benchmarking). The West Midlsnds RDC audit database DOES NOT use the exact scoring methodology of the HCC as the specific measures for 2007 - 08 cannot be faithfully repeated.

Comparison with "Absolute"Measures

As an example of comparison with absolute measures; one of the audit points is the number of people admitted to hospital that have been "gate kept" by the Crisis Resolution Home Treatment Team (HCC Reference 1.1.3). This report analyses the number of admissions that you audited and the number that met the criteria and provides a result as a percentage, so, if you auditted 20 admissions and all of those were "gate kept" then the result is 100%. Because we would expect that all people (100%) who are admitted are "gate kept" by CRHT that, in this example, the Trust would have fully met that criterion.

Benchmarking

This report also compares each Trusts findings with the "West Midlands Average" based on the Trusts who provided audit data, as a "benchmark" analysis. For example; if the total number of admissions audited by all West Midlands Trusts is 120 and only 108 admissions were "gate kept" then the West Midlands average would be 90%. This report then compares this Trusts findings with the "average".

Supporting Local Audit

A blank copy of this audit databse will be available from early October, from this web page, so that each Trust can use it to report its own audits. (The blank copy does not include the benchmark analysis as that requires access to data from all Trusts of the region).
