Mark Rayne

Mark Rayne has worked within the NHS for 26 years, 20 years as a Clinician and 6 years working as a Regional development centre Programme Lead for NIMHE and CSIP West Midlands.   His present role is as a Programme Specialist for NHS West Midlands Regional Development Centre.

Mark's experience within the Development Centre over the past six years has been in the areas of Early Intervention in Psychosis, Delayed Discharges, Out of Sector Placements and Service Improvement.

Early Intervention in Psychosis:

Mark has worked with the 18 developing West Midlands EIP teams facilitating team development programmes, mentorship with team managers and support to peer networks as well as facilitating action learning sets. Mark has represented the West Midlands Region in National EI meetings to disseminate information between National and Regional areas.  Mark has also played a key role in the IRIS movement, one of the driving forces behind the promotion of EI in England and beyond (link to the IRIS website).(link to early intervention in psychosis pages)

Out of Sector Placements:

Mark has worked with Dr. Tony Ryan co-developing and co- facilitating 3 series of action learning sets for commissioners, co-facilitating a commissioners' advanced learning set, contributing to publications and training materials and supporting the Out of Sector Project Board.(link to out of sector page)

Service Improvement:

Mark has co-developed and co-delivered service improvement programmes to the Third sector including Age Concern and RETHINK and many other Third sector organisations from across the West Midlands, working with Managers as coach, catalyst and challenger.

Mark has delivered service improvement programmes to CMHTs, Primary Care liaison teams and Prison inreach teams and is currently co-delivering a programme to Community Development Worker Managers.

Other experience

Mark has experience of being a young carer prior to his nurse career, and has trained as a carer trainer through the CESP RETHINK carer trainer course supporting carer training and development in several areas of work.

Mark has clinical experience working as an inpatient mental health nurse, community psychiatric nurse, CMHT Manager and Clinical Lead in early intervention in psychosis.

Mark gained a Masters Degree at Birmingham University in 2003 in community mental health through the RECOVER Course.

Prgramme delivery during 2009-2010

Mark has co-developed and delivered a Regional training programme for the PIP / Pathways Productivity Improvement Programme at NHS West Midlands SHA,  delivered across the West Midlands through a 'train the trainer' programme approach.

Mark has co-developed a suite of service specifications for the West Midlands mental health commissioning group and co-planned and co-delivered a 3 day developmental programme for Users and Carers to increase their confidence and encourage their involvement in review of services utilising the specifications developed. A programme of development days have been co-delivered to Community development worker Managers from accross the West Midlands utilising service improvement tools and techniques for Mangers to utilse within their teams and work areas.

Work is currently underway to support developing IAPT sites to capture success through the delivery of development days to 5 IAPT site areas accross the West Midlands.(link to IAPT development sessions)
