The following information details the process and anticipated outcomes for the programme of support offered to Users and Carers nominated by local PCT's
To ensure meaningful User and Carer participation throughout the
process a 3-day training and development programme was delivered to
nominated Users and Carers from across the West Midlands with the
following learning outcomes:
• To increase the confidence of Service Users and Carers to meaningfully participate in the commissioning process
• To increase knowledge and understanding of how mental health services connect (whole system)
• To gain knowledge and understanding of service specifications
• To be able to critique current outcome frameworks within service specifications
• To explore a selection of the tools recommended in the outcome frameworks
• To develop a Regional satisfaction/ feedback template
The structure for the 3 days was
Day 1:
• Working in groups and getting to know each other
• Mapping mental health services / an overview of the whole system
• Explore local variations (e.g. rural v inner city)
Day 2:
• Service specifications - what are they and what is my part in them?
• Service outcome frameworks - to critique and add value
• Explore recommended recovery focused tools (e.g. recovery star, DREEM)
Day 3:
• Exploration of a regional satisfaction / feedback template
• Gathering narratives, an approach to documenting success stories
• What next, how do I engage and influence?
The
aim of the programme was to increase the overall capacity and
representation of User and Carer groups from across the West Midlands.
A resource disc was given to each participant on completion of the programme
