Equality and Diversity Issues in Acute Care

The Healthcare Commission review of Acute In-patient Mental Health wards in 2007 audited and reported on the following points which need to be addressed in working to improve equality and diversity standards of care in acute inpatient mental health wards across the West Midlands:

  • The proportion of all staff who report having received training in at least two types of diversity training from the following list:
  • Equal opportunities
  • Racial awareness
  • Gender awareness
  • Disability awareness
  • Religious awareness
  • Assessing clients spiritual and cultural needs
  • The level of support available for supporting clients cultural and spiritual needs (including interpreters for care review meetings, therapies and activities, and access to pastoral and spiritual support)
